I work with teens, adults and couples in all areas of mental health; helping to bring change to the parts of life that aren't working, and towards what they envision life to be. I provide an environment that allows my clients to feel safe, where their courage to be honest is respected.  We will work together in a collaborative way with each of us contributing, interpreting and problem solving from our individual banks of expertise (you know you best!) Everything that comes into the room is worthwhile and considered without judgement.

I consider each client unique and therefore treatment will always vary person to person. Likewise, I approach therapy through the lens of multiple modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, with a Person Centered foundation.

 SELF-ESTEEM MATTERS
My special interest is in helping teens and adults regain their sense of worth so they can live each day feeling significant, loved and with control and purpose in their life.

Is this you?:
  • I don't feel valued or 'listened to' in my relationships.
  • I feel insignificant.
  • I tend to let others determine what I do, how I think, what I feel.
  • When any kind of change occurs in my life I often feel anxious and/or sad.
  • Most days feel empty and without purpose, like I'm 'spinning my wheels' but not getting anywhere.
  • Food seems to be my only source of comfort.
  • I get anxious about doing things perfectly.
  • I often feel unloved, or unlovable.
  • It's a struggle to go out with friends and/or family because I don't measure up.
  • I start arguments, even when I know it's about little stuff.

Somewhere along the way many of us were given the message that who we are isn't enough. So we learned to look outside of ourselves to know we are worthwhile and to somehow earn our way into 'being better'.  But, none of our lives go smoothly, and there are always bumps and turns that happen beyond our control.  When we measure our goodness, value, and competence by the events and/or the people in our life we set ourselves up for the scenarios I've listed above.  Through the counseling process I support individuals in their efforts to recognize their worth, to feel confident in who they are, as well as help them reconnect to those parts of themselves that can endure change, while still feeling valued and loved.

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT
In addition, I take a special interest in the area of weight management, (prior work experience with the Beaumont Weight Control Center program). Managing weight is as much about your thoughts and feelings as it is about the food you eat.  No weight program will be successful, and more importantly maintainable after you lose the weight, without improving how you genuinely think and consider YOU!  If you can relate to feeling powerless, insignificant, undervalued in your work and personal life (see scenarios above), and you are trying to lose weight to improve your health and wellbeing, I strongly encourage you to also incorporate counseling into your 'GET HEALTHY' program.   I work with men and women to become more aware of their behavior patterns and triggers that affect their physical health as well as mental health.
